  • Develop and Manage a Job Shadow Program

  • Summary

    DePaul University created a one-day shadow program to expose students to various functions at an organization through participation in a full workday, which includes individual meetings with managers and staff meetings. The Professional Exploration Program (PEP) offers students an in-depth examination of careers in a wide range of organizations and industries. We will review steps to develop a program, provide examples of templates, applications, and evaluations for a successful shadow, ways to establish partnerships with host employers, and best practices for program implementation and evaluation. You will gain an understanding of the tools necessary to build a shadow program at your school.

    Following this program, you will be able to:

    • Determine how to create, implement, assess, and sustain an innovative job shadow program;
    • Identify employer outreach strategies to engage organizations willing to host students; and
    • Create an evaluation utilizing surveys and focus groups to ensure the job shadow program provides value to both students and employers.
